Ted Kaczynski, genius or insane? Is there a difference? ?

And please don't post comments like, "How dare you! He killed innocent people! He's evil! They should fry him!" Everyone knows what he did, my question is beyond his "evil". I'm really interested in the human mind and why the line between genius and madman is a very thin one.
