How to keep moths away from my balcony?

I have a balcony in my apartment with no lights on it, but the lights inside my home seem to still be attracting them. Even when the blinds are closed. Worst of all they are starting to get inside and I cant stand it. How can I keep them away? I know about mothballs but I keep hearing that they are unsafe, especially considering I have a dog. Any effective methods that will keep them away for good that are also safe for me and my dog?
