Is vaseline/petroleum jelly bad to get in your eyes?

It may burn a little if you get it in your eyes, but everything burns when you get it in your eyes. As for swallowing it, the inventor of it ate a spoonful everyday for over 50 years, not saying you should do that but just to show you its safe.
